If you’ve spent anything over 2 seconds on my site, Instagram or FB, you know what I’m all about – food freedom!
Although it’s clear food freedom means getting off all the diets forever, today I wanna share a bit more about what it really means to be free.
You see, when I started my journey, first of all – I didn’t know I even had a problem; I believed being a woman means starving to death & smiling with the salad while being dead on the inside.
Second of all, the idea of being allowed to eat whatever I want was a rocket science for me – how in the world could I ever allow myself to eat whatever I want, whenever I want?! I’m gonna eat ALL the food. Starting with the worst choices. Most of the women I talk to are terrified of letting go of dieting, of control, because it’s scary to trust our body. This is completely normal – most of the women I talk to are terrified of letting go of dieting, of control, because it’s scary to trust our body. We’ve been out of the touch with our bodies for so long that the bare idea that our bodies KNOW what & how much they need makes no sense at all.
I get it. I agree – starting is so scary. And if it isn’t, girl, you’re not in it 100%.
Because when you dive into getting to know yourself, getting clear on what needs are you currently meeting with food – getting to the core of WHY you eat, instead of what you eat.. shit gets real.
That’s exactly why not all women even consider the possibility to let go & tune into their intuition (which, funny enough, happens to be our greatest gift). Trying to control how much we eat & what we eat, focusing on “losing weight”, “getting fit” is easier than sitting down & saying – this is my life & it’s my time to take FULL ownership of everything that goes on, because I live for myself & I’m worthy of making myself a priority.

But you know what – when you get that kind of courage, when you dive in & take your power back.. girl, what comes out is unfuckwithable, strong woman, nobody can get in her way. Think Oprah.
Oprah doesn’t spend her time standing in front of a mirror saying she’s got a belly, hips, or whatever & judging herself for it & feel like she’s not enough because of that. No. She goes & changes the freakin’ world.
That’s what freedom is.
Our personal freedom starts with our decision to take resposibility for our lives & tune into the core of our being.
Part of that freedom is deeply connected with food – we’ve been conditioned our whole lives to connect success with how thin we are, believing that once we reach a certain number on the scale our lives will magically become better. Most of us also experienced getting compliments & “good job” when we starve ourselves enough to lose some weight – which means we’ve connected being successful with losing weight (or keeping it of), with being a “successful dieter”.Most of us also experienced getting compliments & “good job” when we starve ourselves enough to lose some weight - which means we’ve connected being successful with losing weight (or keeping it of), with being a “successful… Click To Tweet
But what I’m gonna suggest is that this is bullshit. 🙂
Trust me, I’ve seen a lot of different numbers on my scale – none of them mattered until I took ownership of my life & decided to take my power back. Because the truth is, dieting & obessing about food takes your power away from you. You give your power to a bunch of numbers – whether it’s calories, pounds, inches or whatever. Obsessing about these numbers, obsessing about having a perfect diet, not blowing it etc, is just a distraction from what’s really going on – fear of not being enough.
Therefore, when you’ve been through the process of letting go of dieting & all the bullshit that’s weighing you down – you come out as a new person.
That’s what food freedom is all about. It starts with food, but it ends up transforming your entire life. Because your relationship with food is nothing but a symptom.

And the food freedom you get – is incredible.
Imagine getting hungry & going to eat whatever the fuck you feel like eating without judging yourself for it. Without thinking – that’s gonna be half hour on a treadmill. Without thinking – oh well, no dinner after this.
Imagine making plans for meeting your family for lunch without anxiety. Without thinking – well, I won’t eat for the rest of the day.
Imagine eating a cookie without thinking you’re a bad person because of that. Imagine having a freedom to choose whatever you want to eat, whenever you’re hungry – no matter if it’s steamed broccoli or a piece of chocolate.
Imagine knowing that you can achieve anything you desire no matter what you look like (and you are beautiful, btw).
And you know what’s the best part? When you truly allow yourself to eat whatever you want, whenever you want – food loses its power. It’s suddenly not so special anymore. That cookie you crave? It has power over you just because you think you “shouldn’t” eat it. But once you know you’re allowed to eat it & that won’t make you a bad person – that cookie doesn’t matter anymore.
It’s just a human nature – the more we restrict ourselves, or forbid ourselves, the more obsessed we become about that.
Just to illustrate a point – don’t think about the red shoe.
What did you just think about? Of course, you thought about red shoe. We’re just that rebellious! 🙂
Food freedom is a way of living where your self-worth & self-image have nothing to do with the kind of food, or the amount of food you ate. It’s a state where food becomes just a fuel for your body, for your amazing body. A tool to nourish your body so that you can show up in your life as the best version of yourself.
It’s a way of living where you’re free to make conscious choice when and if you want to eat something – and be at peace with that decision.Food freedom is a way of living where your self-worth & self-image have nothing to do with the kind of food, or the amount of food you ate. Common fear women have around this concept is – but Nina, won’t I eat junk food for the rest of my life if I allow myself that kind of freedom!?
Trust me, I thought the same.
What happened is exact opposite – I now do not even consider certain foods because they’re not worthy of me & my body. Seriously.
Bad chocolate? It doesn’t even cross my mind to eat that. Fries? Haven’t though of that in years without feeling disgusted. Processed junks? Nope.
In fact, if you take a look at my recipes, you know exactly the kind of food I’m eating – none of it is shitty.
The difference is – while earlier on, when I was dieting, I drooled just thinking about chocolate, but wasn’t allowed to eat it, now I am 100% allowed to eat it but I refuse to do so. I’d literally rather be hungry.
However, being food-free allows me to consciously choose shitty foods when I feel like it. So, at a birthday party, you won’t see me sitting & watching others eat just because everyone made cakes with 0 nutritional value – I’m gonna be eating a piece.
Because I know a piece of cake won’t make a difference, I know it’s about what we do consistently & I know that eating a piece of cake doesn’t mean I’m a bad person nor a failure.
Side note – I do hope you’re not offended with my vocabulary, however – I am here to be authentic & I make no apologies for that. Speaking on authenticity, I know that in an “intuitive eating” niche they avoid terms like shitty foods or junk foods because it clearly has negative connotation & they call it “play” food.. I make no apologies for calling it what it is. While I, as you know, don’t recommend restricting yourself & I know 100% nobody’s bad/failure for eating these foods, I do believe we can call it what it is – junk food with no nutritional value. We don’t need to use “play” food to “make ourselves feel better” of our choices.
Aaaaaaaanyways, where was I..
That’s not even the best part – the best part is that, with letting go of diet mentality & diving into self-love, you suddenly realise you don’t even have to lose any weight – you’re enough just the way you are.
When the whole food, diet, losing weight obsession stops being a part of your life – and self-love takes over, you’re ready to move forward in life. You’re ready to show up for your dreams, to show up for your desires, to take action in other parts of your life.
That’s the best part – allowing yourself to be enough without counting calories lets you create a life of your dreams.
I know not everyone may be ready for this path – because, while it’s highly rewarding, it’s NOT comfortable.
It’s not easy & it’s definitely not something anyone can do at any point in their lives. Some people are simply not ready to search for comfort outside of food. And that’s okay for them – everyone has a unique path.
That’s exactly why I choose not to work with anyone – if I see that a woman I’m talking to is not ready to commit to herself 100%, I’m honestly not gonna waste my time, nor I am gonna waste her time, because results will be limited (or non-existing) – I don’t want that for anyone. And it’s really okay, everyone walks their own walk. Someday, they may be ready.
While it’s not easy, oh man – it’s so worth it. Being free is so freakin’ worth it. Just to experience the different self-talk is beyond amazing. Experiencing that shift in energy, that moment when we realise we claimed our power & we’re free to go on and live life without letting fear drive us, it’s incredible.
I hope this overview on food freedom & what it really means helps you decide to stand up for yourself & dive in!
What role does freedom have in your life? How do you express it?
Lots of love,
